Ford Annual First Quarter Profit Sits at $2.8 Billion

Published on Apr 28th, 2010, No Comments

Ford has been one automobile outfit that has withered the storm of the credit crisis in the best possible manner, compared to other giants from this arena. The Blue Oval posting a profit in the first quarter of 2010 therefore does not come across as a huge surprise. What is a surprise though is the quotient of the profit against the expected profit for Q1, 2010.

ford Ford Annual First Quarter Profit Sits at $2.8 Billion

While analysts thought that Ford will make around $1 billion in profit in Q1, the actual profit at the end of the first three months for 2010 sits at a whopping $2.8 million. The biggest reason for this successful quarter is Ford’s largest quarterly gain (2.7%) in the US market since 1977. Ford Europe though was a bit of a disappointment as the pre-tax operating profit posted was a modest $107 million despite Ford being the best selling brand with a hefty market share.

New Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe 2010 – Test Drive

Last week, I was invited by Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart to take part in the company’s brand workshop. We’ve been taken to the Mercedes-Benz Museum, then to their design centre and at last, to the test grounds in Malmsheim. That’s where the real fun was. And why do I say that? Among driving a lot of new models in Mercedes’ new lineup, I got behind the wheel with the New Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe 2010. It was a diesel Mercedes E350 and boy was the drive fun — sorry guys for taking it to the limit, didn’t know we’re not allowed icon smile New Mercedes Benz E Class Coupe 2010 Test Drive

So here’s an official video with the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe. It’s a really neat monster, don’t you think?

In a recent news announcement coming from Ford, we just heard that the company plans on coming out with 9 new engines and 6 new transmissions for 2010. Ford has shown great interest and is determined to upgrade all their engines, and although largely meant for the North American market, the new technology — to an extent — is borrowed from its European operations. That means that in 2010 we can expect 9 new engines and 6 new transmissions that include the Ti-VCT 305 horsepower, a 3.7 liter V6 for the 2011 Mustang or the V8 5.0 liter with 412 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque for the 2011 Mustang GT.

The next generation Chrysler is still a dream and for the time being, the fanatics will have to be content with a 2010 upgrade. The very first spy shots of the upcoming model have arrived and to a naked eye, there isn’t much of a difference between the present and the upcoming model. The images were taken at the Chrysler Technology Centre in Auburn Hills, Michigan and they reveal that the present LX platform has not been tampered with, in terms of dimensions. What is also evident is that the pimp look is being shed for a more rounded exterior-a major visible change on the outside. There are plush changes on the inside using wooden panels and leather upholstery although the previous models also didn’t lack the class. The 2010 Chrysler 300 will come with a 22% improved fuel economy and Chrysler is yet to announce the powertrain for this luxury saloon. [via WCF]

At the Chicago Auto Show this week, Kia Motors America took the wraps off of their 2010 Kia Forte. Somehow sophisticated and with daring new lines, the design embraces the new path the Korean automaker is following. And to be honest, it’s nothing short of cool. Available in three versions (LX, EX and SX) you could expect a USB port for your iPhone/iPod, Bluetooth connectivity for your smartphone, a SIRIUS Satellite Radio system for loud bass, steering wheel controls or 17-inch alloy wheels. The first two models LX and EX are using a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that outputs a good 155hp while the sportier SX is propelled by a 2.4-litre engine that outputs 173 hp. Doesn’t sound bad at all, is it? [via WCF]

Autocar reports that the Bentley Arnage will be replaced with a new model for the 2010 model year. Amid speculation that the Veyron-engined Arnage built recently and described by Bentley as a “prototype” is an indication of the next-generation Arnage’s powerplant – almost 1000 hp – the word is that the 2010 Arnage will have an aluminum spaceframe chassis produced by Audi, an aluminum body, and possibly a hybrid version of the current 6.75 liter V-8 using the transmission developed for the Audi Q7 hybrid or the hybrid transmission currently under development for the next Audi Quattro.
