If you were hoping of owning a Ferrari F1 car and the FXX pedal car just wasn’t enough for you here is another idea. A chocolate Ferarri F1. Believe it or not this real-sized F1 car, despite the fact that it doesn’t have an engine, has 2,000 kg of chocolate to keep you busy.
“The project started one year ago, just for fun, but then the Club Pasticceri Italiani started to get really enthusiastic and eventually it became a life-sized model. They started melting the chocolate in 2007, at first copying a small-scale model of the Ferrari F2008, then getting the full scale model done using chocolate imported especially from Belgium.” said Luigi Liberti, president of the Scuderia Ferrari Club Napoli.
The chocolate car was used as a display piece at a Ferrari party and now they are eating it. If you want one and you can wait 1 year you will be able to buy one for about $24,000.
I’ve just heard that the Australian Grand Prix from Melbourne might be canned, because Bernie Ecclestone, the owner of Formula One might have a deal in Russia. Last weekend he had talks with Government officials in St. Petersburg that included a new circuit to be used for a Russian Grand Prix. Rumors say that the Australian organizers refused to become a night race circuit and this may be the reason why Bernie won’t renew their contracts beyond 2010.
India is going to debut in F1 in 2010 and if Russia replaces Australia then Formula One could be dominated by Asian Grand Prix events by the end of the decade.
Most, if not all Ferraris are developed on the twists and turns of Fiorano. But its safe to assume that the most track focused production car that Ferrari has ever produced, the 430 Scuderia (although based on the F430, the F is dropped) has spent more than the average time being thrashed around Fiorano in its development.
Fiorano Circuit is the private track owned by Ferrari for development and testing purposes. It is located near the Italian town of Maranello.
It’s 3.1Km long. Average F1 lap speed is over 160 Km/h and top speed of only 290 Km/h. Because it’s a testing track, it has many different kinds of turns and corners, with corner diameters between 13 and 0.3 meters. All in all it has a lot of similarities with most European GP circuits. Fiorano has witnessed many great Ferrari drivers at work such as Lauda, Prost, Mansell, Alesi and of course Schumacher. Also you’ll find many tourists clawing on perimeter fences hoping to get a glimpse of a new model being tested. And most people say if you more than lucky to be in Maranello when the F1 team is testing, you are bound to hear the sound of the cars wailing at 19000rpm echoeing through the town from far on the Modenese wind.
However, like the Nurburgring, there is much myth and mystery surrounding lap times at the circuit. Some are official and others not as they are posted by various drivers or the very lucky few journalists like Fifth Gear’s Tiff Needell that gets invited to the track, of which a video can be seen on a earlier post on CarBlog.
So coming back to the shoot out, here is a sample of the current times held at Fiorano:
F2004 (Schumacher, 2004) 0.55.999
F2007 (Massa, 2007) 0.58.360
FXX Evolution (2007) 1.14.000(est)
FXX (2005) 1.16.200
Enzo (2002) 1.25.000
430 Scuderia (2007) 1.25.000
360 Challenge Stradale(2003) 1.26.500
599 GTB Fiorano (2006) 1.26.500
F430 (2005) 1.27.000
So it can be seen the 430 Scuderia is as fast as the Enzo and the 360CS as fast as the 599 which is extremely impressive. But due to nature of the turns at Fiorano, the Enzo struggles to get to its limit. On any other track with longer straights the 430 Scuderia might be in the shadow of the Enzo and who knows the 360CS in the shadow of the 599, but never the less they up there with the best of them besides of course the old V10 F2004 of Schumacher (as apposed to the new F1 V8s ) which just seemed to have been in a league of its own with a whopping 55.9 seconds record that still stands today.

The FIA has confirmed the 2008 Formula One calendar, including the world championship’s first night race at the new Singapore track.
The schedule issued following today’s World Motor Sport Council matched the provisional calendar released earlier this year, but with Canada, Singapore and Valencia all confirmed, and Singapore specified as the first floodlit evening Grand Prix.
The Montreal race had remained provisional on the previous schedule, while the new tracks in Singapore and Valencia (which will hold the European Grand Prix) were both subject to circuit approval.
Although it had always been anticipated that the Singapore GP would be run at night, the FIA wanted to be certain that it could be achieved safely before providing official confirmation.
Kimi Raikkonen has become the 2007 Formula One World Champion. In a hectic race where each of the top three could have won it, it was Raikkonen who led his team mate over the finish line to win his first Brazilian race and his first world champion. After so many close attempts, Kimi is a worthy champion, and after his convincing display today around Autodromo Carlos Pace, McLaren will be kicking themselves for letting it slip away. From the first lap, it looked as though Ferrari would dominate, but what happened over the course of the Grand Prix wasn’t what was expected. (more…)
It is being reported that Alonso will be leaving the Mclaren Mercedes team at the end of this season or after the GP in Brazil, to join his old team – Renault.
The German newspaper, Bild, reports that his unhappiness and conflict with his teammate are some of the reasons he decided to return to Flavio Briatore. I guess this should end the rumor that Alonso will join the Ferrari team, as some have reported. Whatever the outcome of this is, the most important thing will be decided in Brazil, where Alonso is trailing 4 points behind Hamilton for the Championship.
Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver Fernando Alonso finished the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai in second place. Whilst his team mate Lewis Hamilton retired, when he went off and got stuck in the gravel with worn wet tyres on a drying track. Kimi Räikkönen took victory, so the championship will now be decided among those three at the final race in Sao Paulo in two weeks’ time. After 56 laps in changeable conditions, 305.066 km and a total race time of 1:37:58.395 hrs, Fernando came home 9.8sec behind Räikkönen’s Ferrari. Despite his first retirement in 16 Grands Prix, Lewis maintained his lead in the Drivers’ Championship after 16 out of 17 races with 107 points followed by Fernando in second position with 103 points; Räikkönen is third on 100 points with 10 points available in the remaining race. For the first time since 1986, there are three drivers to fight for the title in the final race. (more…)
Lewis Hamilton is on the verge of signing a $110 million deal to stay on at the McLaren team until the end of 2012. The German newspaper Bild claims the contract, representing a mammoth pay-rise over his debut salary, is worth $17m every year plus – oddly for a McLaren contract – the ability for his father Anthony to negotiate separate marketing arrangements.
Mercedes-Benz’s Norbert Haug confirmed: “We would like to cooperate with Lewis on a long-term basis. He is a great person and a great driver.†Hamilton’s father said they are yet to sign the deal. “Not yet,†he said, then referring to the upcoming FIA inspections at Woking. “There are still things to go through, such as whether the team is definitely in formula one.â€
The news coincides with Hamilton telling reporters in the McLaren motor home that he has earned more respect from the team than his championship rival Fernando Alonso. “And since what’s gone on in the last few weeks they’ve realized who the real people are in the team and who they really should back,†the Briton, 22, added.
“We arrived at Spa and he is sitting there laughing and joking. I don’t understand it.†Hamilton confirmed suspicions that his relationship with the Spaniard is almost non-existent. “He is not the person I imagined him to be,†he said. (GMM)
