Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster

Lovers of British sports car maker Aston Martin recently had the ownership dream made more achievable by the introduction of the “entry level” V8 Vantage. Now, that dream will be available in rag-top trim for all to appreciate owners’ expensive hairdos.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster

As these pictures reveal, the V8 Vantage Roadster features a high grade retractable fabric roof that turns it from snug cocoon to boulevard cruiser at the touch of a button. Engine outputs and performance are similar to the hardtop sibling’s, as is the extruded aluminium chassis with high-strength bonding taken from the DB9 (in V8 Vantage guise, it has been shortened, stiffened and given a 250kg weight saving). The engine used is the 4,2L V8 used in the coupe, which draws inspiration from the 4,2L V8 Jaguar mill.

Says Aston Martin: “The Vantage Roadster is a high performance sports car. With 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.0 seconds (0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds) and a potential maximum speed of 280 km/h (175 mph) its performance figures are as heady as you would expect of an Aston Martin.

Although there are many reasons for this excellent performance – light weight and efficient aerodynamics among them – the key is the engine, the heart of any great sports car. This new V8 has been specifically designed and developed for the Vantage Roadster and Vantage Coupé. Hand assembled at Aston Martin’s purpose-built engine facility in Cologne, Germany, it is a light, compact, all-alloy unit – high performance yet ultra-responsive even at the lower end of the rev range. Its maximum torque is an impressive 410 Nm (302 lb ft) @ 5000 rpm, 75 per cent of which is delivered at just 1500 rpm – barely more than idle – making the Roadster extremely tractable and great fun to drive. Push harder, and that V8 engine revs freely, delivering refined, exhilarating pace.”

With such dashing looks, great chassis dynamics and what must be one of the most evocative exhaust notes on planet earth, one might agree. Visit www.astonmartin.com for details, and share your views here on this model.
