More than 200 cars where involved this morning in a mass accident that took place on Abu Dhabi-Dubai highway. Six people were killed and hundreds injured.
The accident happened because of weather conditions. A very thick morning fog was responsible for bad visibility and drivers ended up into the pile up one after another at full speed. The same weather conditions made injured helicopter transfer almost impossible so the rescue and ambulance departments had to drive to the scene.
25 cars caught on fire and and Abu Dhabi police officer said that :
“The crash happened because everyone was speeding despite the severe weather conditions. Drivers weren’t leaving a safe distance between cars and this resulted in everyone hitting each other after the first crash.”
