Lamborghini has announced that it will be showcasing both its new Sesto Elemento (above) and Urus SUV concepts at the 2012 Monterey Classic Car week in California.
The Sesto Elemento first made an appearance back in 2010 at the Paris Motor Show with Lamborghini having confirmed that it will be producing 20 units of the luxury vehicle accompanied by a price tag of $2.2 million.
The vehicle borrows its engine from the LP 570-4 and will retain most of its body work from the concept.
LA Custom Coach has created the very first Dodge Challenger SRT8 stretch limousine which made its first public appearance at the 2012 Spring LX Festival dedicated to LX platform Chrysler Group models.
Philip Eiselin, President of LA Custom Coach says he was so inspired by the Challenger’s wheel design that he immediately went to work on its design – found the vehicle, cut it in half and stretched it out.
The limo was completed four and a half months later. The interior that is completely different from the original, features black leather interior with a red SRT striped theme, 24-inch LED TV, colour changing light show and as is traditional with limousines, a full bar.
Eiselin has confirmed that this one of a kind vehicle will not be the last of its kind as a second Dodge Challenger limo is currently being built with more to follow.
Bentley has been hinting at the possibility of a full-size luxury SUV for a few years now and it recently became a reality at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. Of course, still in its concept form, the British auto manufacturer’s new vehicle named the EXP 9 F will bring the company a lot of attention – whether negative or positive.
The company is calling the concept car a “compelling new take on the Grand Touring Bentley”, one that could possibly give birth to a third model line joining the existing Mulsanne and Continental lines. Bentley likes to think that the car will be “equally at home at an opera gala performance, on the sand dunes and the overtaking lane of the autobahn.” However, it’ll be Bentley’s client base that determine the truth to that.
So why did the luxury auto maker go for an SUV? A reason for this includes that most of Bentley’s customers already own SUVs as the car becomes more of a necessity than a fad. So, adding a high performance sports-utility vehicle to its lineup will attract new customers and pull more money from existing loyal client’s bank accounts.
Of course, Bentley couldn’t just create an SUV that would easily compete with others on the market, rather the “EXP 9 F had to represent the absolute pinnacle of the sport utility sector, setting a new benchmark for this type of vehicle,” says director of design, Dirk van Braeckel.
Audi recently demonstrated its new OLED lighting concept at the Audi Electronics Centre in Ingolstadt, Germany that will make future models light up like never before.
According the Stephan Berlitz, Head of Lighting Technology and Electronics at Audi, OLED is a natural extension of Audi’s own pioneering efforts integrating LED lighting into its vehicles. He said that “This homogeneous visual effect would not be possible with today’s LEDs. These are individual points of light that need additional optical devices – reflectors, optical conductors or scatter optics. OLED surfaces are themselves the source of light, and the thin plates also look attractive. They weigh little, light up extremely fast, develop only a small amount of heat, last for several tens of thousand hours and don’t consume any more energy than conventional light-emitting diodes. OLEDs suit Audi perfectly because they combine high-end technology, maximum precision and super design!”
Hyundai has managed to keep its i-oniq concept coupe under wraps since its teaser almost three months ago, but the internet couldn’t wait for the concept’s Geneva Motor Show debut and so here is a leaked picture of what to expect.
The crew from the Korean Car Blog managed to get their hands on this first official image of the i-oniq, the next interpretation of Hyundai’s “fluidic sculpture” design language. Coming in around 173 inches, the i-oniq is a little shorter than BMW 3 Series coupe, and is reportedly a serial hybrid, with a small displacement gasoline engine powering up a battery pack, with a pair of motors driving the rear wheels.
Named for the city that Pininfarina calls home, its Cambiano concept may just be the sexiest plug-in diesel hybrid ever created. While the vehicle will make its official debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, Pininfarina chose to release some of its concept shots in advance.
The Cambiano is powered by batteries, a diesel-fueled turbine or both and propelled by an electric motor at each wheel. The car gives a maximum output equivalent to 816 horsepower and can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 155 mph.
While showing-off a supercar performance, the Cambiano was primarily designed to be environmentally friendly and so emits just 45 grams of CO2 per km which should be clean enough for the car to be compliant with future Euro 7 emissions standards.
Images of Infiniti’s new electric supercar called the Emerg-E have surfaced ahead of its official debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. The images appear to be the official renderings for the Emerg-E showcasing a vehicle that is both sleek and sporty.
While the technical specs on the Emerg-E have yet to be revealed, the Emerg-E is expected to be a range-extended electric car similar to the Chevrolet Volt. This means that it will be a plug-in hybrid that has a gas engine that acts as a backup generator.
The engine will be mid-mounted for better weight distribution and improved handling, while the electric portion will be similar to the Nissan LEAF’s drivetrain but probably a more advanced battery with greater capacity.
Land Rover is exploring a convertible version of the Evoque and will make a production decision ‘within six months’. Design director Gerry McGovern unveiled the concept, that will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, at Pinewood Studios.
McGovern said that “Land Rover has a history of creating new segments; with the convertible, we believe we have an opportunity to do it again. It’s another twist on the Evoque story.”
The Evoque convertible concept has a powered soft-top roof with a glass rear screen, which is stowed in a recess below the rear deck. The boot is re-engineered to fold down like the original Mini’s tailgate, while pop up rollover protection would be packaged behind the rear seats.
