Buick’s answer to the Audi A4 has just been unveiled. Ahead of its official launch, which is set to take place next year, the 2012 Regal GS bears a visual similarity to the Insignia OPC/VXR.
The vehicle has a reduced ride height, trapezoidal exhaust tips, and 19-inch alloy wheels. The interior is cushy, with sport seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel, aluminum pedals, and satin-finish accents.
Adding to these is the leather upholstery, a Harmon/Kardon audio system, and Bluetooth connectivity. It also possesses an Interactive Drive Control, and a high-performance braking system with Brembo front calipers.
Unlike the Insignia OPC/VXR, the GS has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 255 hp (190 kW / 259 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque and is front-wheel drive instead of having an all-wheel drive capability.
This would mean that compared to the OPC, this vehicle would have less performance, getting from 0-60 mph is done in approximately seven seconds, while the OPC does it in 5.6 seconds.
This is somewhat compensated by the HiPerStrut front suspension that will help to contain the torque steer in the GS. Whether this will ensure it popularity akin to the OPC will be known next year after it is launched in the market.
