This, definitely, could come as sad news for all you Audi fans out there. The company seems to have put a proposal for the Audi R4 in the backburner. Though no official announcement has been made, we hear the model was cancelled as the company fears that it would apparently bring down the sales of Audi TT and Porsche Boxster / Cayman. Besides, the Volkswagen Bluesport variant is too expensive to compete.
As you know, Audi had been hinting the release of e-tron family series of cars from 2009 onwards. It had been speculated that the second e-tron concept car, unveiled in 2010 in Detroit, provides a preview of a future mid-engine Audi sports car. It was expected to be launched in 2012 as Audi R4 or Audi R5.
Meanwhile, the Audi A2 revival is also expected to be delayed until 2016. The company is reportedly planning to build the car on a wider platform instead on a bespoke basis.
